Phil Dixon

Safety Team Program Manager (FAAST), FAA

Phil Dixon is from Memphis, Tennessee. With a life-long interest in airplanes, he earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 1987 and began down an aviation career path soon after.

His success rate as a flight instructor was noticed by inspectors from the Jackson, Mississippi Flight Standards District Office who suggested he become a designated pilot examiner. At the same time, he flew corporate and charter in a variety of general aviation aircraft.

After the events of 9-11, Phil joined the FAA as an Operations Inspector in St. Louis. After five years, he joined the FAASTeam as a program manager. In 2018, he moved back home to Memphis, Tennessee.

Phil created the FAA’s “57 Seconds to Safer Flying” video series on the FAA’s YouTube channel. For two years, he was producer, writer and video editor for the FAA’s “Rotorcraft Collective” video series as well.

Phil has an ATP with type ratings in the Cessna Citation and in the Hawker. He holds a flight engineer certificate, along with a remote pilot certificate.
